We had so much fun I only took a few photos! Seems like just yesterday, I was wearing these ears with my own name on them. We forget a lot of our childhood….but I think days at Disney World are permanently burned into some super-happy-special part of our memory forever. (Please excuse the weak quality; point and shoot camera settings were changed by a mouse ear-wearing six year old.)

Santa brought so much great stuff this year…two favorites were wii games and this poker set. Have you ever seen a 4 and a 6 year old playing seven card stud? You have now.

The last day of vacation always comes too quickly for me. We spent the day in Labadee, Haiti just relaxing in a lovely private cabana overlooking an unspoiled powder-sand beach where the boys played in the crystal clear water below. I took a few minutes to explore the crumpling ruins on hill and photographed them with the point-and-shoot, wishing I had my pro camera along for this only…. Today though, I did not even want to read my book, I just savored the experience of being here. The piña colada was a bonus. *wink*

The Solstice has an amazing Lawn Deck, and we have spent more time here than by the pools and to play a quick game of bingo! The Hot Glass Show (you have to see this video!) is also here, and glass artists show how to blog glass several times daily. My boys have fallen in love with all three glass blowers and have now watched the show about six times. It is a really fascinating art and I would love to take a workshop in it one day at the Corning Museum of Glass. Being on the ship is so easy with kids…they have freedom yet we know where-ish they are and with a few hundred other kids onboard, there is always someone to play with.

After arriving in Tortola (which we had visited about six months ago), we decided to take a smaller boat to Virgin Gorda to see the Baths, which are an unique collection of giant boulders that form a series of spectacular pools and grottoes which flood with sea water with each wave. The hike is challenging, requiring visitors to squeeze through thin passages and across pools of water, thus I do not have tons of photos here…I was afraid of dunking my camera on several occasions! At the top of the cliff, there is a restaurant with this gorgeous view, and a private swimming pool for visitors. What a stunning place~

We took a small ferry boat over to this beach in Saint Marteen and the boys jumped on a water trampoline (all day for $5, best investment ever) while I zoned out under my own rented lounge chair and umbrella. We had an al fresco lunch at a cafe (I don’t think we even wore shoes!) and went right back to the sand. Warm sun, crystal clear water, and happy kids….life is good.
I am getting a lot of emails again about my camera. It is this one and I think there is a newer model out as well. The camera is amazing in RAW mode, but I forgot to bring extra cards on the trip, so am shooting in jpg. I think it still looks pretty decent for our personal snapshots.

We spent the day in Old San Juan Puerto Rico today…so picturesque! We went to the ancient fort, El Moro, and then walked through the colorful historic town. Ponce De Leon is buried in this cathedral that is still in active use today. I love stepping back in history like this…especially in such beautiful tropical weather. (All images shot with the Panasonic Lumix point & shoot on .jpg mode…I am getting lazy!)

This is the time of year when we close the studio for a month and make time to be with our own families. I know that, like most portrait photographers, I am busiest October through December , when the workload multiplies to a crazy pace. After working like mad, with few days off during the last months of the year, a family vacation to someplace beautiful and relaxing is always what I want to see on my calendar! This year, we have a seven night cruise on to the caribbean and I will be shooting for myself with my trusty point-and-shoot as I usually do. We love to take cruises, because it is super easy with kids (you always know where they are, where you are eating, and where your stuff is) and this is our fourth family cruise of 2009! Both boys received cameras this year for the holidays; as you can see Ethan is excited to be shooting with his new little video camera.
We are on the Celebrity Solstice, a stunning ultra modern ship with an art collection that blows my mind and lots of special touches which I will photograph this week. My kids’ favorite place is The Lawn, a real grass deck that offers bocce ball, croquet, golf and other games or just a quiet soft space to relax and watch the view of Florida fade into the distance. How cool is this place?

are finally out and we are about to depart for an 8 day vacation without the phones and laptop…just enjoying our family in a warm peaceful paradise. So, please if you call the studio or send an email, be patient….and we will be in touch as soon as possible. Happy Holidays to you and yours~
(These holiday card images are from our trip to Alaska. If you scroll back to summer on the blog, you can see the whole six weeks of adventures!)
