We are announcing registration details for our next Learnfest! This program was aptly named, built as a true learnfest for portrait photographers who are ready to take their business to the next creative and strategic level. Join the industry’s top portrait photographers Audrey Woulard, Tamara Lackey, Laura Novak and I for an all-inclusive 3-day/4-night learnfest that runs from September 14th to September 17th at the beautiful Chateau Elan, outside of Atlanta.

Experience in-depth instruction on shooting, post-production, marketing, business strategy, revenue generation, and studio and daily workflow. Redefine what success can mean in the portrait photography business. Interact in small groups of 15, meeting with each instructor throughout the course of 3 days as part of an overall program that is tailored to deliver a comprehensive learning experience for the portrait photographer. Network with other photographers from around the world, in addition to the hosts, in an environment built to encourage sharing and connection. And offer yourself the opportunity to completely focus on imporoving your skills, your business, and your future in photography in an invironment that fully encourages you to step away from the pace of every day work/life.

Registration will open on May 15th at noon EST! As our last Learnfest sold out in under 4 hours, we expect registration to move briskly, so if this does sound like a fit for you, we’d encourage you to register as soon as possible on May 15th!

Here’s what some attendees have said about Learnfest. Read many more reviews on the section of the site.

Spending two solid days with 60 photographers, in four intensive, 4-hour classes with instructors I have fallen in love with was pretty close to heaven on earth.

When you typically sign up for a workshop, you hear one person speaking, and come out of it thinking “wow I want to recreate that exact same thing they did.” And you go home and try to adopt something that isn’t born out of your own creativity. Learnfest is so unique in that you hear four very different business plans and success stories from four very different women. And although everyone hears the same information, no one person walks away from it with identical plans of attack when they return home. It’s like setting out a whole list of ingredients. Some are the basics. Some are fine spices. Some are garnishes. Each person will create their own unique recipe for success based on the ingredients that were made available to them. And the end results for all will be award-winning.

If you’re serious about being a professional photographer, and have passion for what you do, you can’t go to Learnfest and not come back rejuvenated and inspired.”

~Jane Johnson

“LearnFest was such an amazing experience on so many levels for me. In just a few days I grew not only as a photographer, but as a person. I learned to believe in myself and in my talent. But more than anything, I learned that you can have a successful business and have a life at the same time. These four ladies are so phenominal. They were selfless in giving of their time and valuable advice to help us and stopped at nothing to make our stay and our experience top-notch. I met such a great group of photographers from all over the country and made friendships I hope to last a lifetime. I highly recommend this workshop if they plan on doing another one! GO….. don’t hesitate; you truly won’t regret it.”

~Suzie Seagraves

“Learnfest provides a wealth of information from best practices for business to creative strategies for future growth. It allows attendees to step back and look ahead at endless possibilities for their photography business.

From the seasoned professional to the hobbyist thinking about taking the plunge and starting their own photography business, Learnfest provides tremendous resources for all photographers.

Learnfest doesn’t hand you all of the information on a silver platter, using a cookie-cutter approach. Based on their experiences, Audrey, Laura, Lena and Tamara provided ideas and strategies for attendees to modify for their own businesses. They also offered hands-on photography opportunities to watch them work in multiple shooting/lighting environments. Best of all, they shared secrets for maintaining a manageable balance of work and life, while sustaining – even increasing – revenue.

And, Learnfest comes with a lot of homework. Not your typical dreaded homework, but the fun, motivating kind of work it takes to build your business into exactly what you want it to be. They provided the springboard for us to apply what we’ve learned to our businesses.

Attending Learnfest was inspiring, educational and has transformed the future focus of my photography business.”

~Amy Shaffer

“Learnfest has been the best thing I could have ever done for my business! It would have been worth the price to attend just one of these amazing ladies’ classes. And I actually said after my first class on the first day…..”I could go home now.” But, I still had three more lectures to attend and just became blown away! The immediate and close relationships with so many of the other attending photographers has been truly special and great for putting into practice all that we learned. Lena, Tamara, Laura and Audrey are the best of the best!!!!”

my own wall 11.03.2009

I just had this canvas wall gallery hung in a niche of my hallway, over a long console and I LOVE how it looks! I’ve been dreaming of hanging gallery wrapped canvases with their sides touching to create something with modern impact. Here I have three 12×16’s, two 16×26’s. (Images are of my husband and I by my talented friend Jesh De Rox)

If you are a client, you may not know that I co-publish one of the photo industy’s top resources…Design Aglow. This is my “other” baby. Today, we launched our SEVENTH issue of our magazine…feeling very proud here!! From our press release:

To branch out means to extend outward, whether in the framework of a tree grasping for the warmth of a January sun, or as seen through the lenses of our industry’s top photographers. We bathe in a bright opportunity for the amazing photographers who share stories in images and capture now forever with their pictures.

In this (ad free!) 386 page issue, Rock Star of Photography Jerry Ghionis dazzles us with a sizzling slice of life; Anna Kuperberg shares why photography may well go to the dogs; Jay Reilly trades on the photo stock market; Susan Stripling discusses romantic destination weddings in a way that makes even us say “I do”; Marci Ralph takes ‘senior’ citizens to new heights with high school photography; the Boudoir Divas share insights into the ‘secrets’ of Victoria. Anne Ruthmann instructs how networking keeps her on her ‘tweet’, Laura Novak and Sarah Petty’s knowledge of increasing photography revenue is an article to bank on for success. And take a peek into Adele Reding’s gorgeous studio, the surroundings of a true photographic visionary.

With this, we welcome you to Issue 7 of Design Aglow: Branching Out. To see a table of contents, click here.

May 2009 exceed your expectations for health and happiness and be blessed with the wealth of friends, opportunity and good fortune,

After three months of 12 hour days, 7 day weeks, and not much rest…the studio is officially closed for a well-deserved break! I will blog my personal doings over the next four weeks, because for some reason my clients are quite amused by our extra curricular activities!

I am very excited about my new point and shoot camera…we just returned from 3 days in Miami and I shot with it the whole time. This little Panasonic DMC-LX3 has a Leica lens and shoots RAW up to 10 megapixels! The quality is stunning…way better than a lot of prosumer cameras I have shot with. I will post more images from it over my vacation…stay tuned.
