fall has arrived

This is the time of year when things get super crazy busy. I am doing a lot of family shoots like the one above….how beautiful is this family and their home!?! I am pretty much working every single day now through the end of the year, and the studio is already abuzz with holiday cards, gifts, and wall galleries that must be hung before the holidays. And, did I mention that babies are still being born? It’s going to be our busiest fall ever….I can feel it. But, I would not want it any other way!

time passes more quickly on beautiful islands

Wow, what a fantastic week it has been on Bald Head Island, NC with my fellow Learnfest (thelearnfest.com) instructors and our wonderful, enthuastic, and inspiring workshop attendees! I don’t think I have ever worked with such a connected group of liked-minded and motivated photographers…my mind and heart floweth over.

Days were spent sharing and learning in the most open way imaginable. Meals were enjoyed on breezy porches with old and new friends. Nights were spent talking and rocking in rocking chairs on the porches of dream homes overlooking pristine beaches. And, everyone slept to the sound of ocean and wind while a flurry of ideas swirrled in their dreams.

A storm held off almost until we were done, but not quite…so yesterday, *just* as we were all sharing our last dinner together, word of a possible tropical storm broke. We made the call to adjust the schedule and stay together late for our panel Q&A and big prize giveaway in order to get everyone off the island first thing this morning, just to be safe. The day was long and wonderful and prizes flowed for an hour and a half. A huge thank you to all of our sponsors!

This morning all but the heartiest of folks left the island to return to all parts of the US and Canada. I hope to post more photos to this thread….since I was too busy teaching to grab more than a couple of point & shoot images. If you have any learnfest photos, please send them to me!

horsey girls

I photograph these sisters each year and *this* year we decided to go to their stables so I could meet their beautiful new horses from Belgium. They are such amazing creatures…I fell in love with them! There is a real connection between horses and humans, and I think with kids….it is pure magic.

girly girls

As a mama to boys, I just love girly stuff…dollhouses, tiny bows, and super sweet little outfits. When these two showed up at the studio today, I knew this would be a good shoot…just look at these two beautiful blondes and this cotton candy color palette…pure eye candy!

Everyone always wants to know what type of clothes and what colors will be best for portraits. CityPlace is a great shopping destination for unique finds for our shoots. My favorite nearby places for beautiful looks include: Oilily, Anthropologie, and C.Orrico. When you are done shopping, check out some of my new favorite lunch spots: Mamma Che Buono, Il Bellagio, and City Cellar. And, don’t forget to throw a penny in one of the fountains for good luck!

miss ella

Oh, how we love Miss Ella at the studio…she is the cover model for so many of our product samples! Her newborn sessions was one of my all-time favorites. I was so happy to hear Ella was in town this week and was ready to work it for the camera one more time. How fabulous is she? And, she is quite a daddy’s girl too!

from the road

I was out of town this weekend and it was a fantastic getaway! I have so many photos to proof, but here are a few of my two little subjects….who are about to become big sisters to a little brother very soon. I’m guessing the new guy will be super blond too, right?

another new little sister

It was just 16 months ago when I was shooting a sweet newborn named Lily….and today look who is here, her little sister Lucy! All my clients know that newborn images are best when the baby is young, really young. Miss Lucy is just four days old here…don’t let her cute chub fool you! And Lily is now a beautiful toddler. Mama has her hands full…

I can not believe how different these four year old twins are…like night and day. The only way I would even know they are related is that when they laugh, the have the same exact smile…sweet!
